Meeting Summary 7/18/2026

Many thanks to Hugh, Harry, Jack, Zachary, Damian, Nat, and John for coming!

In addition to getting to know our new members (and them getting to know us), we discussed potential additional meeting locations, communications methods, and what we’d like to add to the website.

For locations, in order to make it easier to book decent-sized rooms, I’m also looking at libraries within 15 to 20 minutes of a Metro station, as well as keeping in mind some folks’ travel time from Friendship Heights. The two that seem most promising are Long Branch Library (17-20 minutes by bus from Silver Spring Metro, 1 hour by bus from Friendship Heights) and Kensington Park Library (16 minutes by bus from North Bethesda Metro, 22 minutes by bus from Wheaton Metro, and 1 hour by bus from Friendship Heights). The August meeting will be in Long Branch (details to follow).

I joined Reddit as another way to spread the word about us, but the last I checked my account was too new and my karma too low to post in r/MontgomeryCountryMD. Zachary joins Vivian as a Matrix enthusiast, while John only uses Mastodon, so I’ll make sure to be better about posting and checking for messages there (@sharkmime@social.linux.pizza).

For the website, folks were enthusiastic about posting photos of their home labs, and possibly bios. Feel free to send those to me, and I’ll get them posted! The contact form goes to my email address, if you’re not on the Discord. Let me know if there are other things you’d like on the website; the more interesting stuff we have, the more likely we are to draw attention to ourselves.
